Rite of Passage Experience

The Rite of Passage Experience (ROPE) program is a wilderness camp for young people aged 13 - 15 years of age, set in Kangaroo Valley NSW. This program is designed to build resilience, enhance self-esteem and empower participants in this important transition from child to young adult.

About the program

The Rite of Passage Experience has been curated especially for younger people aged 13–15 years. It is a live-in, catered camp experience in stunning Kangaroo Valley NSW just two hours from Sydney, undertaken over a 3 day/2 night period.

Designed to empower the participant with a new-found confidence that can be incorporated into their everyday life, the program sequence is:

  • Disengagement (from devices)
  • Immersion in nature (peace, stillness, breathing)
  • Incremental challenge
  • Empowerment
  • Celebration

A typical program consists of numerous outdoor adventure activities like rock climbing, abseiling, navigation exercises, an overnight canoe expedition, team building activities, mountain biking and river hiking.

Building resilience and mindfulness

This is a unique program that not only focusses upon resilience building but also aspects of mindfulness and creating an awareness of Self. The group size is capped at 12 participants (minimum 8) – small enough for collective growth but also large enough for groups to be allocated and for team building/leadership activities to occur.

Our focus is upon empowering young people to be confident with who from within. Our role is to facilitate the sharing of wisdom in an environment that nurtures that transfer of knowledge, hence a genuine rite of passage.

The outdoor environment and flow of the program transitions the participants from an introductory phase, into a challenge phase and finally out into the emergence phase – like caterpillars emerging from the chrysalis as butterflies.

Groups are single sex, with a gender-specific program with the desirable outcomes similar yet delivered in their unique gender-specific way. For both boys and girls, the program is structured around physical challenge activities while immersing in nature and appreciating a world devoid of electronic and social media.

Each participant will receive a momento of their journey, allowing them to reflect upon their achievements well into their young adult lives.
